Joy of Joys, Another Injury

I cant say 100% that its an injury, mainly because I hate ever admitting anything is wrong.  One thing I have learned over the past couple years as I get more active is that ignoring something is asking for trouble.  An example is my knee starting to hurt on the second day of the MS 150 and pushing through to the point of collapse to finish the ride faster than I needed to.  My Livestrong Challenge ride the next month was forcibly shortened from the full 100 to 75 when after 30 miles I felt the knee starting to act just like it had over a month before.

Last night after I finished my training ride my hamstring felt a little sore and all day today its basically felt tight like it was cramped.  So I figured it was no big deal and started getting ready for my run.  Did a few quick jogs down the hall and felt it tighten up more.  After seeing hamstring this and hamstring that on ESPN I did a quick Google search and came up with my hamstring being described perfectly as a first degree strain in this article (Click Here).

If it had to happen its a good time for it because my friend Derek’s bachelor party is this week and Ill be gone for 5 days so Im losing today, tomorrow, and Wednesday for training.  According to the article I’m supposed to rest it for 15 days but we’ll see about that.  Its getting nine days from yesterday till next Monday and that should be plenty.

As for how I pulled it, its either playing golf for the first time in a few years Saturday which I doubt or my bike session on the trainer yesterday.  Like an idiot I just jumped onto the bike and didn’t do any stretching beforehand or afterwards.  Thats probably the culprit and its well-deserved because I should’ve known better.

Moral of the story, make sure and stretch for every training session no matter what it is.
