Nike+ Shoe Workaround
I found a workaround to having to buy the specialized Nike+ shoes to use with the running system. I dont like the idea of being limited to a single brand of shoes to train in so I poked around for an alternative. What I found was ShoePouch.com. The concept is a pouch that the Nike+ transmitter fits into and then is attached to your shoelaces. Pretty simple and effective. Most alternatives I found were home made, bounced around, or looked like you’d end up losing the sensor. The shoe pouch is tied down with your shoelaces so there’s no chance of it moving around of flying off. It attached fairly easily but would’ve been far easier with better shoelaces than I have already.
So there’s a way to shave off $100 to $150 on the price of the Nike+ system if you decide to use it and not be locked into buying new shoes. There will be enough money invested in training for your Livestrong Challenge that cutting some costs will probably be ideal.
